Inspiration

On every project, we aim to do meaningful, creative design work. Along the way to reaching our goals, we draw inspiration from many sources—our clients’ lifestyles, the creations of a master furniture craftsman, a stunning sculpture from an up-and-coming artist. Interior design requires an intimate knowledge of many different disciplines and resources, to which our eyes are always open. In our aptly named Inspiration blog, we share the products, trends, artisans, muses and merchants we encounter, and hope they fill you with discovery, delight and, most significantly, knowledge to help you lead a more comfortable, aesthetically pleasing life.

Shelter Porn: New Interior Design Books To Own or Give as Gifts

We get plenty of inspiration from Instagram, but it’s not the same as digging into to a big, beautiful book devoted solely to lust-worthy interiors (which must be why the New York Times coined the term “shelter porn” to begin with!).  We're not knocking the beauty and power of images (after all, a picture is worth 1000 words, no?), but the words in these tomes give us food for thought and fodder for our own design philosophies. Here are the ones we can’t do without and will be adding to our design library this year. Read more

7 Little Luxuries To Give—Or Get For Yourself!

Coco Chanel reportedly said, “Luxury is a necessity that begins where necessity ends.”  Of course, her luxurious “necessities” did just that, merging comfort and function with great design.  And as luxury interior designers, that’s exactly what we strive to do in our projects.  So with those qualities top of mind, we scoured the web to find little luxuries to give as gifts this holiday season. The High Life: Creative Ceilings Can Take Rooms To New Heights

Homeowners spend hours deciding what to do with their floors and walls, forgetting one of the biggest game-changers we have in our arsenal as luxury interior designers: the statement ceiling. What’s the Best Sofa to Buy?  What You Can’t See Counts Most

Buy the best basics you can afford.  We’ve all heard that before, but a recent Wirecutter article on sofa buying advice reminded us how important this guidance is when it comes buying important pieces of furniture. And by our assessment (and that of theMOST10.com), sofas are the most widely used piece of furniture in our homes.  After all, you can sleep on a sofa if need be—and more—but beds aren’t quite as versatile. How do we make choices when we’re doing a home?  As interior designers, we often use ideas and elements that our clients would never think of trying on their own, so they assume that we have an innate talent for pulling things together.  Some of us do, but it takes much more than inborn talent to think like a luxury interior designer.
